RPSC Assistant Engineer (AE) Exam Pattern

What is RPSC AE/AEN (Rajasthan Public Service Commission Assistant Engineer) Exam?

The RPSC AEN Recruitment 2024 is a state-level engineering services examination conducted by the Rajasthan Public Service Commission (RPSC). It aims to recruit Assistant Engineers (AEN) for various departments, providing career opportunities in civil, electrical, mechanical, and agricultural engineering.


Pattern of Examination

The Competitive Examination will be conducted in two successive stages:

  1. Preliminary Examination
  2. Main Examination

Preliminary Examination

The Preliminary Examination will consist of two papers:

  • One compulsory paper
  • One optional paper

Both papers will be of objective type and together carry a maximum of 400 marks, covering subjects mentioned in Section 'A and B'. The Preliminary Examination serves as a screening test only. The marks obtained in this examination will not count towards the final order of merit.

The number of candidates admitted to the Main Examination will be 15 times the total approximate number of vacancies (categorized by category) to be filled in various Services and Posts for the year. Additionally, all candidates who achieve the same percentage of marks as the lowest qualifying range set by the Commission will also be admitted to the Main Examination.


SECTION – A

Compulsory Paper

  • Subject: General Knowledge & General Science, including General Knowledge of Rajasthan (its Geography, Economy, and Culture)
  • Max Marks: 200
  • Time: 2 hours

SECTION – B

Optional Papers

  1. Civil Engineering
    • Max Marks: 200
    • Time: 2 hours
  2. Electrical Engineering
    • Max Marks: 200
    • Time: 2 hours
  3. Mechanical Engineering
    • Max Marks: 200
    • Time: 2 hours
  4. Agricultural Engineering
    • Max Marks: 200
    • Time: 2 hours


Main Examination

The written examination will consist of the following papers, which will be of conventional type. Candidates must take all the compulsory subjects and choose one optional subject from the list provided below. Each optional subject will have two papers, with three hours allowed for each paper.

Compulsory Subjects

  • Paper I: Hindi
    • Maximum Marks: 100
  • Paper II: Social Aspects of Engineering
    • Maximum Marks: 100

Optional Subjects

  • Papers III and IV: (Candidates must choose one subject from the following list. Each subject will have two papers.)
    • Maximum Marks: 200

List of Optional Subjects:

  1. Civil Engineering
  2. Electrical Engineering
  3. Mechanical Engineering
  4. Agricultural Engineering

Personality and Viva-Voce Examination

(i) Candidates who achieve the minimum qualifying marks in the Main Examination, as determined by the Commission, will be summoned for an interview. However, candidates must score at least 35% in each of the two compulsory papers and a minimum of 40% in aggregate to be eligible for the interview, which carries 72 marks.

(ii) During the interview, the Commission will award marks based on the candidate's character, personality, communication skills, and physique, as well as their knowledge of Rajasthani culture. These marks will be added to the candidate's scores from the Main Examination.

(iii) The standard of the examination papers will be equivalent to a Bachelor's Degree level, except for the Hindi paper, which will be at the Senior Secondary level.

(iv) All papers must be answered either in Hindi or English, unless otherwise specified. Candidates are not allowed to answer any single paper partly in Hindi and partly in English, unless specifically permitted.

(v) If a candidate's handwriting is not easily legible, marks will be deducted from their total score.

(vi) Credit will be given for orderly, effective, and precise expression, with appropriate economy of words, in all examination subjects.

(vii) It is mandatory for candidates to appear in all compulsory and optional papers.
